Hi! My name is ‘Ginger’ (this is not my real name) and I’m an alcoholic. While that’s not my real name, everything shared on this blog is real.
I started drinking when I was a Junior in high-school and I’m well into my 30’s now. I made the decision that I couldn’t go on living the way I was living anymore and in March 2012 I sought treatment through an outpatient substance abuse counseling program and also stepped foot into my very first AA meeting.
This blog is going to be all about my journey to living a life of sobriety and learning how to live without alcohol. It’s going to be a place where I talk about my good days and my bad days.
I’m not here to tell you you’re an alcoholic (no one can make that decision but you). I’m not here to judge (there’s only one person who can do that and eventually we’re all going to stand before Him). I’m here to share my story in hopes that if I even touch one person’s life and they get help from this nasty disease (alcoholism) then all my messes will have been worth it!
Note: The reason I chose to use a pen name and not my real name is because I need to protect those around me and AA asks that you adhere to a strict policy of anonymity – even if attending a meeting in person you don’t have to use your real name if you chose not to!
